* Add a cording onto the 9" center piece of fabric before you sew the backing fabric on. I cut a 3/4" strip of accent fabric and pressed it in half wrong sides together. Then sewed it to the right side of the centerfabric with a 1/8" seam allowance.  Repeat on other side.  After that, I followed the instructions just like the written sheet.  

* Insert batting and quilt for a more substantial runner.


* Use an edge stitch foot and top stitch the pressed edges before sewing the ends up. This will help keep a pressed edge after washing. 


* Use a yo-yo or other decorative embellishment to tack down the ends. How about an embroidery design?
