Q: Why should I bring my sewing machine in for service annually? 

Just as a car needs to be serviced and maintained regularly before problems arise, your BERNINA is a finely-built machine that requires regular preventative maintenance and attention. 

We recommend bringing your BERNINA sewing machine in at least once a year.  If you are an avid sewer, we recommend servicing your machine more often, depending on usage. 

Machine Service by our BERNINA-trained and authorized technician includes: 
  • Complete cleaning
  • Complete oiling
  • Adjustment to basic mechanical settings
This professional level of service give you much more than the recommended self-cleaning we teach in the Machine Mastery class.   

In order to continue the warranty of your machine, you should never go further than was demonstrated in the Machine Mastery class.  You are only authorized to remove the head cover.  Our technician will remove all machine covers under properly grounded protocols set by BERNINA. 


Q: When should I bring my machine in for service? 

You should bring your machine in at least once a year.

How about bringing it on your birthday each year or on the date of purchase?   Create a unique date that makes it easy-to-remember your annual need for service to keep your machine in top condition.  

It is not recommended that you bring your machine for service around January 1st as many people choose the beginning of the year.   Your service time will be much faster if you choose another time during the year. 



Q:  What should I bring? 

Your machine and embroidery module (if you have one) are required for a full check-up.

Also bring: 
  • #1 Reverse Sewing Foot
  • Electrical Cord
  • Foot Control
  • Bobbin
  • Bobbin Case(s)
  • Specific stitched examples of any concerns you have
  • Embroidery hoop (if you have an embroidery machine)  Preference - medium hoop
  • Protective Case/Cover for transporting machine
Bring any other foot needed to check something you want us to look at specifically.  For example, if you are having trouble with buttonholes, bring your buttonhole foot.  Your foot is calibrated to your machine, so it is necessary to use the same foot you use at home to successfully test this function.  

As another example, if you have questions about your BSR (BERNINA Stitch Regulator), please bring your BSR foot, which may need to be computer-updated.  If you have a question about the calibration of your hoop, please bring your hoop.  Having the same equipment you use at home will enable the technician to address and resolve your specific concerns. 


Q:  What should I leave at home? 

In order to service or repair your machine, our technicians do not need: 
  • Accessory box
  • Feet that are not associated with problems you are experiencing
  • Slide-on tray
  • Spools of thread
  • Owners Manuals
Kindly keep these items at home since they are not necessary for service or repair.
